PTFA Round-up

This has been the first full year of everything being open again post-pandemic, so we have been able to do more and we hope there has been something for everyone to enjoy. This year we held a family bingo night, children's discos (also doubling as colouring club with background music!), 'Break the Rules' day, the Christmas Fair, a stall at the Fulbourn Winter Festival, the Secret Postcards exhibition and auction, a quiz night, a cake sale, ice lolly sales, the garden party and Open Gardens. We've also hosted pre-loved uniform sales, and helped at the EYFS welcome evening and the Year 6 Leavers BBQ. Thank you to everyone who has volunteered with us to make these events possible. Special thanks to the Men in Schools who are a massive support, particularly with their BBQ expertise, and to Mrs McCaughran, Miss Crowe, Mr Honer, Mrs Bouttell, Mrs Stevens, Mrs Cooksey and Mrs Richman, our key supports in school. Details of how we've raised money this year, and what we've been able to fund, can be found above.

PTFA Badges

We are very excited to launch our new PTFA badge, which is something that can be earnt, a bit like a Blue Peter Badge, for independent fundraising activities that support the PTFA. If any adult, child or group, would like to take on a sponsored challenge, hold a cake sale, make some craft items to sell, host an event, etc. in aid of the PTFA, we'd love to celebrate your hard work and achievement by awarding you a PTFA badge. The first badges were presented in assembly to Lindsay Crockford who raised money for the PTFA as she ran the London Marathon; to Evie, Hannah, Jessica and Lottie, who made craft items to sell on their Stall4All; and to Charlie Foord, who made and sold his own very cool comic. If you arrange your own independent fundraiser for the PTFA and would like a badge, please fill out an application form (copy below) to let us know what you did. There are also hard copies available at the school office. If you want to run any ideas past us or need some support with your fundraising, you can contact us at fulbournprimaryptfa@gmail.com

Happening this term:   Ice Lolly Fridays!! Available at pick-up, every Friday.  If your child attends an after school club or goes to Kids R Us, they still have an opportunity to buy an ice lolly after school if they bring in £1.  Bonus Ice Lolly Sale - Tuesday 18th July - due to 7th July being a teacher strike day.

If you’re able to help us sell lollies after school one Friday, please use the link:

Labelling uniform

As you get uniform and equipment ready for September, please make sure you label everything. If you order name labels from http://www.stikins.co.uk the PTFA earns 30% commission on every order when you use our fundraising code 7650. Parents from our school who already use Stikins have commented on how good they are.

Other things you can be doing to help the PTFA at no cost to yourself include:

  • Signing up to http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk so you can earn money for the PTFA as you shop online. Our charity is called Fulbourn Primary School PTFA - Cambridge on their system.
  • Donating used printer ink cartridges for recycling. The last box we sent off for recycling raised over £50. You can leave old cartridges at the school office or pass them to Sarah Davies.
  • Start saving your unwanted clothing for our Bag2School collection in September. We'll be collecting:
  • Men’s, Ladies’ and Children’s clothing
  • Paired shoes (tied together or elastic band around)
  • Handbags
  • Hats
  • Bags
  • Scarves and ties
  • Jewellery
  • Lingerie
  • Socks
  • Belts
  • Soft toys
  • Household linen
  • Household curtains
  • Household towels
  • Household bedding (bed sheets, pillow cases and duvet covers but NOT duvets)

Thank you for your support!

A huge thank you to everyone that helped in any way with the Garden Party and Open Gardens last weekend or came along to support. It was such a lovely community event and wonderful to see so many families enjoying the sunshine in the school garden. Thank you to school staff that gave us their weekend to support the event as well as Men in Schools and PTFA volunteers who all worked so hard. The events raised at least £3250 which is incredible!! The school children had requested some sheltered outdoor seating for use all year round which we will now be able to fund for them.

A Date for your Diaries

We are delighted that  Fulbourn Arts is organising a ceilidh in aid of the PTFA, taking place in September. Tickets are available already - see the poster below for details.

Annual General Meeting

The PTFA has worked hard over the past year organising fun events for children and families, as well as raising valuable funds for the school.  Have a look at the minutes from the recent AGM to find out more:

A big thank you to everyone who joined us for another fantastic quiz night, and especially to our quiz master, Mat Meredith. It raised £550.

Thank you to everyone who has supported the Secret Postcards Project too, whether in making postcards, coming to see them, helping at the exhibitions, or bidding in the auction. We're delighted that so many people seem to have enjoyed the project, and it looks set to have raised around £1,600. Click below to see the 'Big Reveal' document in which you can find out who was the artist behind each postcard. If you had a go at the quiz sheet, you can also find out the answers below.

The money raised at these events will help with current projects, including developing the allotment area, and funding loose parts play equipment and storage, for more creative play opportunities at break times. We're also looking to provide some covered outdoor seating, as requested by the children. These bigger projects are on top of funding maths, art and library resources, coach travel for year 5/6 swimming lessons, and experiences such as the Living Eggs (chicks) project and Victorian school day. We work hard to ensure that all year groups benefit fairly from PTFA spending.

The PTfA support the school by organising social events and raising funds which go directly to the school for the direct benefit of the children.

Did you know?

  • The outdoor play equipment
  • The new library
  • The Big Cat reading book scheme
  • Maintenance of the school swimming pool
  • A range of other resources including musical instruments, computers and garden equipment

The PTfA Committee and being a member

Our current committee:

     Lindsay                  Sarah D                    Sarah F

     Treasurer               Secretary                   Chair

As a committee, we steer the co-ordination of PTfA events and link closely on a regular basis with the Headteachers and the Men in Schools group.

But we can't do it alone!  We are always looking for more helpers and new ideas to bring to the PTfA.  All talents are welcome and there are opportunities to contribute a little or a lot or anything in between.

The PTfA meets regularly at The Six Bells to plan activities such as discos, quizzes, Christmas and summer fairs and social gatherings, and we take part in the running of events.  It is a great way to get involved in school life, meet other parents, have some fun and support our children through fundraising!

If you'd like to find out more:

Please get in touch with Sarah via the PTfA email, fulbournprimaryptfa@gmail.com, or leave your name and contact details at the school office at any time and they can pass your details on.

Certificates for all the children have been delivered to school, so they should receive them soon.

Ways you can help:

Amazon Smile

Do you frequently make purchases from Amazon? Using Amazon Smile won't cost you anymore, but it will help the PTfA! When you go to Amazon, type https://smile.amazon.co.uk into your browser, then select Fulbourn PTfA as your designated charity. A fraction of a percentage of your purchase will then be donated to the PTfA. It's a small step that adds up quickly!

Just Giving

The PTfA can receive donations through our Just Giving page. You can make a one-off payment or set up a monthly direct debit following the instructions.

If you have any queries about how to use the Amazon™ class lists, Amazon Smile, or Just Giving, please get in touch with Fran or Laura, or ask at the office. Thank you for your ongoing support to Fulbourn Primary School.
